Our world is changing faster than our bodies can keep up with.
Our minds can't comprehend the scale of crises we face.
Our cultural stories forecast nothing but doom.
It's terrifying.
But what if these times aren't just about what is breaking?
What if they are also about what is being born?
Never before have humans been so ripe for an evolutionary leap.
Yet that leap requires that we choose it.
It requires that we refuse the vision of a dystopian future.
Most of us know what we are in resistance to.
But do we also know what we are living for?
Whose vision of the future are you feeding?
In chaotic times, the means matter as much as the ends...
The how matters just as much as the what.
Which is why these times are a call for us to:
-
create what we long for, even amidst collapse
-
expand our tactics beyond logic, facts and intellect
-
be ok with not having the answers or getting it all "right"
Most importantly, it relies on remembering that:
-
our true power lies within our hidden depths
-
humans are so much more than what we've been told
-
flawed as we may be, we are enough to meet this moment
Deep down, you remember.
And deep down, you've been waiting for this.
Me too.
So let's play, ok?

the Temple Sessions are:
... an ever-evolving series of ceremonial dance parties
… featuring themed, multi-genre, BPM-bending playlists
… which invite us to listen to and follow our body's wisdom
… as a means of releasing our ancestral and cultural trauma
… using pleasure, play, curiosity and connection as our guides
... in a playlab created for lifelong and 'non-dancers' of all ability
... who believe a more just, joyful and generative world is emerging
... from the critical mass of us who are embodying it within ourselves!

This is OUR SPACE TO unwind, unmask, unearth.
This is where we EMBRACE our human mess and our holiness.
This is THE POWER OF US rewriting the stories we live by.
It's like a combo of
Folk dances, in that they are participatory social events
+
Church, where we tussle with spiritual and social paradox
+
Ecstatic dance, where we move to feel good, not to look good
+
Music festivals, where we dress to express (rather than to exercise)
+
Somatic therapy, where we listen to and follow the wisdom of our bodies
+
Nightclubs, where we dance with each other rather that facing towards a DJ
+
Wedding receptions, where humans of all ages, ability and agility move together
without the restricting norms of
Dance recitals, where dancing is about performing with perfection and precision
+
Concerts, where being barefoot and/or on the floor would be cause for alarm
+
Frat parties, where dancing without inhibition attracts sexual attention
+
Zumba class, where mirrors and instructors guide your movements
+
DJ sets, where musical genre and tempo don’t vary much
+
Dance battles, where spectating is part of the vibe
+
Ecstatic dance, where sobriety is held sacred

the who and her why
As a kid, I longed for a beauty, sacredness and belonging that I couldn't find in the human world around me (and that no one else in my life seemed to miss). Everything from strip malls and Sunday School to power lines and holidays felt hollow. Only in nature could I find the patterns of beauty I craved.
Acned and anxious, I escaped into the natural sciences. A decade later, in grad school and on track to study geology in Antarctica, those very same patterns of beauty shattered my known reality –turning their attention on me, by orchestrating a series of miracles that science simply could not explain.
Awed and adrift, I left science behind and let the cosmos lead. I spiraled from wilderness therapy and addiction intervention, to spirituality and ceremony, to graphic and interior design, to conscious business building and community care. Eventually, a pattern emerged... and with it, my hope for humankind.
The Temple Sessions my love-letter to humanity –a call to reawaken to the beauty, sacredness and belonging we've lost. They are the synthesis of everything I've learned (and unlearned) as a scientist-turned-ceremonialist, about evoking harmony in a culture that's hell-bent on causing harm.

Pronounced like the letter 'M'

is this for me?
The Temple Sessions are derived from Hannah Kinderlerher's Awaken The Dance practice, which makes welcome the chronic illness, trauma and shame that keep so many of us dissociated from our bodies –and by extension, our wisdom and truth.
No amount of being injured, out of shape, "bad at dancing", pregnant, low-mobility, tired, menstruating, cranky or ________ is reason to stay away. People have spent entire dances laying on a yoga mat, hidden under a blanket, or seated on a stool.
This space is a sweet spot for people who are:
-
able to hold for the world being born even as the old ways fail
-
tired of processing our rapidly-changing world in isolation
-
actively questioning their conditioning and assumptions
-
directing their radical rage towards systems, not individuals
-
open to the existence of the more-than-material world
